Casa Jaumot – Cultural Asset of Local Interest
Casa Jaumot, also known as Ca de Jaumot, is a palace house located on Carrer Major in the old town of Pont de Suert. It is a unique building of Baroque origin that retains a ground floor, two floors and an attic, with a symmetrical façade with balconies and oculi at the top.
For centuries, this house was the residence of five generations of pharmacists. The first is documented in 1720, and the building also housed the first pharmacy in the capital of Alta Ribagorça, of which numerous apothecary materials and objects are still preserved.
Inside you can see documentary collections dating back to the Middle Ages, a collection of antique furniture and various medical, nursing and pharmacy instruments that explain the evolution of medicine and daily life in the Pyrenees.
The building has been a Cultural Asset of Local Interest (BCIL) since 2014 and is considered one of the few examples of a Pyrenean house-palace preserved almost intact.
It has now become a museum and is open to the public to discover the history of the family, Dr. Saura and the traditional pharmacy, as well as the heritage value of the house.
