Camí del Llong, Redó and Portarró
A 17.5 km long route (round trip) that runs through the valley of Sant Nicolau, in the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. From Aigüestortes we climb to the bottom of the valley, in the middle of the forest, to Lake Llong. We continue uphill to the beautiful Redó lake and ascend to the Portarró d’Espot: the natural passage to the valley of Sant Maurici. We go around the Planell d’Aigüestortes by the shortest path, passing near the Portarró hut and the Pi de Peixerani. The route is signposted to Lake Redó and does not present any technical difficulty. From there to the junction with the Portarró d’Espot, the path blurs a little. Despite overcoming a considerable difference in altitude, the route has a staggered longitudinal profile that is affordable for people used to walking in the mountains.
This itinerary allows us to visit the western part of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, crossing the valley of Sant Nicolau from W to E. We start the route in the area of Aigüestortes, with its wetlands and black pine forests. The path progressively climbs along the bottom of the valley to its head, where alpine meadows dominate and we discover beautiful lakes of glacial origin. Throughout the route we have impressive views of the highest and most emblematic peaks in the area and, from the Portarró d’Espot, we can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the two main sectors of the National Park: Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici.
