Cap de la Faiada
The fountain in the village of Montiberri, uninhabited for years, is the starting point of this itinerary, eminently forested, which will take us to the head of this limestone giant. A cobbled path with dry stone walls starts towards the mountain until it enters, shortly after, into a forest where the badger or the wood peacock are frequent guests. This Scots pine forest, the product of reforestation carried out in the mid-twentieth century, extends along the Espigolars area.
As we gain altitude through the shady Montiberri, the undergrowth becomes wetter and the first isolated beech trees begin to appear. They are robust trees, with gray and smooth bark, which with the arrival of the first cold weather will lose their leaves and also their fruits, the rich beech trees, a fundamental food for many of the animals that live within these mountain jungles. The roe deer is one of them, it has colonized, with relative ease, these forest environments.
Once we have crossed a firewall that accompanies the power line to the existing communications repeaters at the caps de la Faiada, and after numerous raids, we will be able to enjoy excellent views from the viewpoint of the Feixa Rasa. Little by little, the forest begins to clear up while the limestone rocks emerge forming small hills. We are in the Llong meadow, an elongated meadow with natural pletiums to enclose the animals of yesteryear, but which are still evident today. Metal antennas will surprise us when we reach the caps de la Faiada, but it will be the geodesic vertex, located at the highest point of the mountain, where we will find an orientation table that will help us interpret the landscape that surrounds us.
