Durro Fauna Route

The mountain is full of life, but many animals are only active at night or hide when they see you or hear your smell or noise you make. However, everywhere they leave traces that betray their presence: footprints, excrement, scratches… The Route will help you to recognize the traces of the fauna of the Pyrenees.

Along the way, you will find panels with information on the most characteristic species of each environment and replicas of their tracks.

After observing them carefully, you yourself will be able to look for authentic traces in nature. The droppings of a fox, the footprints of a brown bear or the latrine of a badger, will let you know the presence of these animals, even if you do not see them.

The environments through which the Route runs

The path will take you through different environments. First of all, from the hermitage of Sant Quirc you can enjoy magnificent views of the alpine meadows and the rocks that we find on the highest peaks of the Pyrenees.

Then you will visit the black pine forest and arrive at the Escaleta viewpoint, which offers you a panoramic view of Alta Ribagorça and the mountains that crown it: it is also a magnificent place to enjoy, if you are lucky, the flight of birds of prey.

Then, crossing a Scots pine forest, you will reach the path from Saraís to Durro. This hundred-year-old path will take us back to the village of Durro, passing between patches of mixed forests of oaks, ash and hazelnut trees, and crossing the meadows and pastures.

Your walk will end after crossing the Gros ravine, a typical stream at the headwaters of the rivers of the Pyrenees.
