Salencar de Barruera Route
The route can start from Barruera, accessing it by the river promenade and crossing the suspension bridge over the Noguera de Tor.
The Salencar de Barruera, also known as the Cardet reservoir, is a reservoir that receives the waters of the Noguera de Tor and is located downstream from the village of Barruera, at an altitude of about 1,080 meters. It is a fairly open and flat area within the Vall de Boí, which has favoured the development of vegetation typical of wetlands, especially the salencar.
Over time, the accumulation of sediments at the bottom of the reservoir has led to the appearance of bogs, rushes and riverside forest, with the presence of willows, ash trees and other characteristic species. This natural process causes the areas of deep water to gradually decrease while the vegetation takes up more space.
This space also stands out for its rich fauna. It is a place frequented by migratory birds and several species of wetland birds, such as the mallard, the moorhen, or the kingfisher. We also find trout, as well as some amphibians and mammals such as otters or roe deer.
The proximity to Barruera and its easy access make it a popular place for hikers, fishermen and tourists. There are currently signposted itineraries, wooden walkways, interpretive signs, viewpoints and rest areas, and environmental education activities are organised.
El Salencar is part of the Natura 2000 Network (ES0000022 “Aigüestortes”) and is also included in the Alt Pallars-Aran National Hunting Reserve.
