Senet Fauna Route

The wildlife route that we propose begins in Senet and climbs quickly up the slope of the mountain, following the old path of the port of Gelada. You walk through a landscape where the human footprint is very evident, with a mosaic of old crops and hay meadows, separated by margins and dry stone walls. It is an environment very rich in fauna, where it is easy to discover the trail of the fox or wild boar.

At the top of the climb you reach the extensive subalpine meadows, where cattle graze during the summer months. If you walk carefully, you will be able to see the chamois squads grazing in the highest parts, or catch a roe deer on the threshold of the meadows and forest. From up here you can contemplate the colossal avalanche of drags of the Esbornada ravine, which is one of the great geological protagonists of the Barravés valley. Finally, among Scots pine forests, the route approaches the Estarredono viewpoint, from where you can enjoy a privileged panoramic view of the valley and the foothills of the Maladeta massif.

Area of natural interest of Gelada

This space extends along the mountain range that separates the valleys of Boí and Barravés, between Senet and Barruera. It occupies an area of 2285 ha and is centered by the large port of Gelada, which gives it its name. One of the main reasons that has motivated the protection of this territory is the presence of old subalpine pine forests of black pine, which are home to a very well represented high mountain fauna.

The itinerary borders the lower limit of the EIN Gelada and offers good perspectives, from the viewpoints of Artigalonga and Estarredono.
