Medieval Walled Village Vilaller

The Vila Closa de Vilaller is the oldest town in the village, a charming complex that retains the structure of the old medieval mountain villages. It is characterized by a network of narrow, irregular and cobbled streets, surrounded by stone houses with traditional elements such as portals, wooden balconies and small architectural details.

In the past, this space was closed and protected, which gives rise to the name “walled town”. Even today this defensive function can be sensed in the layout of the streets and in the compact organization of the nucleus, designed to protect and adapt to the terrain.

Walking through the Vila Closa you can discover corners with a lot of character, small passages and spaces that preserve the essence of the past, as well as heritage and ethnographic elements that explain the history of the municipality. It is also a place that reflects traditional mountain life and the relationship with the natural environment.

Today, the Vila Closa is an ideal place to take a quiet walk, enjoy the popular architecture and discover the heritage of Vilaller, breathing in the authentic atmosphere of a Pyrenean village.
