Viewpoint at the Cardet dam (views of Salencar and Barruera)
Viewpoint located next to the Cardet dam, from where you can see views of Salencar, the village of Barruera and, in the background, the mountains of the Aigüestortes and Lake Sant Maurici National Park.
The Salencar de Barruera is an area declared an Area of Natural Interest and included in the Natura 2000 Network, a European environmental protection program. It is a wetland wetland that, from a biological point of view, is an important place of passage and refuge for migratory birds that move between northern Europe and the south of the continent.
This natural space is also a good example of nature’s ability to adapt. The origin of the Salencar is related to the construction of the Cardet dam in the fifties, which created a barrier to the river and favoured the accumulation of sediments transported by water. Over time, this process has allowed the growth of vegetation typical of wetlands, such as the Salenca, which have ended up giving this place its name.
It can be reached by car to the car park of the Cardet dam or on foot from Barruera, following the Camí de l’Aigua, in a journey of about 20 minutes.
