APPLES AND PEARS OF LESP- MOUNTAIN
FRUIT OBSERVATORY OF NATIVE AND COMMERCIAL VARIETIES OF APPLE AND PEAR
Reference centre in fruit growing in the High Pyrenees.
Since 2009, the Observatory has been studying the best varieties of foreign commercial apples and pears and the best traditional varieties of Romanesque Ribagorça. The ideal altitude, the generous soil, the abundant sun and the cool summer nights on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees give them the maximum in terms of colour, texture, sugars and aromatic complexity.
They have twelve apple varieties in full production, all very select: Royal Gala (Brookfieldcov, Galaxycov, Mondial Galacov), Rubens®, Arianecov, Golden Delicious (Reindeerscov, Smootheecov), Reineta Gris (du Grand Fayecov), Junami (Milwa-Diwa®®), Pinova (Evelina®), Braeburn (Ellacov) and Fuji (Kiku Fubraxcov). En pera, Conference and Angelys®.
Of native and traditional varieties, they have more than a hundred, including apples and pears: the best of each village.
Check out its features and tasting notes in ribagorsanes.com.
I’m sure you’ll find the one you used to eat when you were kids!
The Observatory is currently a private research centre that is financed by its own production, in the form of table fruit, cooking fruit and packaged natural juices. They sell directly on the farm, at fairs and markets in Ribagorça and in agroshops in the region.
With the consumption of their products, in addition to being able to enjoy the excellence of mountain apples and pears, they contribute to the maintenance and knowledge of the collection of traditional varieties, a reservoir of biodiversity and a conservatory of cultural heritage.
Guided tours of the Observatory:
Professional, amateur or family level. By appointment, from April to November.
