The Romanesque Heritage of the Boí Valley

The Alta Ribagorça preserves one of the most important groups of Romanesque churches in Europe, renowned for its remarkable architectural unity. These buildings, constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, follow the Lombard Romanesque style from northern Italy.

They are characterized by the careful stonework, slender bell towers and exterior decoration with blind arcades and Lombard bands.

Among the most notable elements are the mural paintings of Sant Climent and Santa Maria de Taüll and Sant Joan de Boí, as well as the sculptures from the Erill Workshop. Today, visitors can also enjoy an innovative videomapping experience at Sant Climent de Taüll, which recreates the original paintings.
